CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Burglar prowls through Chantilly home

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are looking for the burglar who was caught on camera rummaging through a south Charlotte home.

The victim, Alex Hamad, sent Channel 9 the crystal clear surveillance video. It captured the suspect wearing a gray hoodie pulled tight around his face.

Police said the thief cleared out the home on Shenandoah Avenue in Charlotte's Chantilly neighborhood.

Hamad, who is a nurse, came home Monday night after his shift to find his home had been trashed.

"That's when I walked into this mess," Hamad said. "I imagine he was looking for guns or stashed cash or something like that."

From jewelry to video games, the burglar even stole the home security camera which captured the video, but the pictures and video were still saved on the security system.

Hamad said he was furious when he saw the video of the thief.

"There were some curse words. I'm just happy I didn't get hurt or involved in that situation," Hamad said.

Despite the damage, Hamad realizes things could have been worse.

He said he's annoyed that he works hard for his money and others don't.

"I put in hard work here, and I'm always trying to help people and those around me and this happens," Hamad said.
