Charges against lawmaker involved in deadly accident dropped

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Charges against a state lawmaker involved in a deadly accident were dropped Monday.

Last December, troopers said, Rep. Larry Womble, D-Winston-Salem, crossed the center line and crashed head -on into another car in Winston-Salem.

That crash killed the other driver, David Carmichael, who was legally drunk, officials said.

In May, Womble was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. Now, prosecutors said they do not have enough evidence to prosecute him.
