Portion of roof collapses as firefighters evacuate abandoned home on fire

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Firefighters were busy Friday afternoon battling a large fire at an abandoned house in northwest Charlotte.

Crews were called around 12:40 p.m. to the home on Pitts Drive, off Beatties Ford Road near the Brookshire Freeway.

The first arriving firefighters reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the house.

The fire was so intense that after nearly 20 minutes, fire crews were ordered out of the house because a portion of the building collapsed.

No injuries were reported.
