Charlotte firefighters install free fire detectors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte firefighters from 41 stations joined the state fire marshal Saturday to install free smoke detectors with the goal of preventing deaths caused by fires.

The Charlotte Fire Department has responded to four fires that resulted in six fire fatalities this year, which is more than last year.

Firefighters were out knocking on doors checking with residents to see if there's a working smoke alarm in the home.
