Charlotte gets shout-out when ‘Homeland' wins at Emmys

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte received a shout-out during Sunday night's Emmys, which were seen nationwide.

Right after “Homeland” won big at the Emmys, the acceptance speech included a shout-out to the Queen City: “Michael Cuesta, Damian Lewis, Claire Danes, our fabulous crew in Charlotte, and our great wives, wives, we love you!”

The Showtime series, which has been filmed in and around Charlotte, took home Emmy awards for outstanding drama series and outstanding lead actor and actress in a drama series.

For the past several months, production trailers could be seen around uptown Charlotte.

The show has also filmed in Gastonia.

“Anything that's going to bring business and attention to downtown Gastonia is an excellent thing for us,” said Melanie Stover, a co-owner of Sharkey's Place restaurant in Gastonia.

While “Homeland” hasn't made it over to her business, she looks forward to what the success of the show seen worldwide could do for the small town.

“We're trying to revitalize an older community and make it into something new and vibrant for today's people,” Stover said.
