Charlotte homicides up nearly three times from last year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department is concerned about the huge jump in murders.

Police are investigating Charlotte’s 20th homicide this year.

CMPD Capt. Cecil Brisbon said that at this time last year, Charlotte had only seven homicides.

He said there is no easy explanation for why it's almost tripled.

“I can tell you that in some of those situations, the offenders were known to the victims, so that is one thing that comes up,” Brinson said. “But any one homicide is too many.”
