CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In a metro growing as quickly as Charlotte — in both population and new multifamily supply — the fact that apartment hunters are looking to the Queen City for such dwellings shouldn’t come as too much a surprise.
In fact, a new analysis from Apartment List — a digital rental marketplace based in San Francisco — shows that nearly half (48.2%) of renters looking for a place in the Charlotte area are searching from outside of the metro area. Of the nation’s 25 largest metros, Charlotte ranked fifth in that measure, trailing only Tampa, Florida (63%); Denver (55%); Baltimore (52%); and San Diego (49%).
On the other hand, just 34.7% of apartment hunters currently living in Charlotte are looking to move elsewhere and 65.3% are looking to stay put.
Those results, released last week, came courtesy of Apartment List’s inaugural Renter Migration Report, aimed at shedding new light on the migration patterns of America’s renters.
