Charlotte man who lost license due to DWI charged again with drunken driving

BELMONT, N.C. — A Charlotte man told a trooper that he’d “had a couple of beers” as he passed through a checkpoint in Belmont on Saturday, according to an affidavit and incident report.

Channel 9's partner, the Gaston Gazette, reported that a trooper said James McMurray IV, 28, had red, glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol.

The trooper asked McMurray to participate in several roadside tests. His poor performance resulted in his arrest. He also took a breath test that revealed he had a blood alcohol content of 0.09, which is over the legal limit of 0.08.

Officials discovered McMurray was driving with a revoked license caused by a previous DWI charge.

He is charged with driving while impaired and driving with a revoked license.

McMurray was held at the Gaston County jail on a $10,000 bond.
