Charlotte pegged as a hot spot for tech hiring in 2019

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One city in particular in North Carolina, a state that’s recently been rebuffed by tech giants Amazon and Apple for each’s respective headquarters expansions, is expected to be abuzz with tech hiring in 2019 — and it’s not located in the Triangle region.

According to a survey of “IT hiring decision makers,” Charlotte ranks No. 2 among cities where tech hiring is expected to occur the most in the first half of the year.

Seventy-seven percent of tech leaders in the Queen City anticipate adding employees during the first six months of 2019, says the report from Robert Half Technology, a division of global staffing firm Robert Half International Inc., which comes on the heels of a separate report that highlighted the city among the nation’s hottest markets to find tech talent.

The Queen City trails just Houston, where 80% of tech managers said they expect growing employee counts through June of next year. Phoenix, Arizona, at No. 3 (76%), and Chicago and Dallas, which tied at No. 4 (75%), round out the top five of 28 U.S. markets in which more than 2,800 respondents were surveyed.
