Pizza delivery driver robbed at gunpoint: ‘I was absolutely terrified'

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a series of delivery driver robberies in University City.

"I was absolutely terrified," Andrew Jervah, a Hungry Howie's pizza delivery driver said.

Police said around 11:45 p.m. Monday on Erwin Ridge Avenue, a man robbed Jervah at gunpoint while he was delivering a pizza in the Old Stone Crossing neighborhood. The suspect got away with $75 dollars.

The homeowner told Channel 9 she hadn't ordered pizza and police told her the robber likely ordered the pizza to her home because that person thought no one was inside.

That was one of a series of robberies of delivery drivers that CMPD is investigating.

Drivers for Hungry Howie's and Domino's Pizza were robbed last week at gunpoint in the 901 Place Apartments in University City. The suspect got away with hundreds of dollars in cash.

"Robbing one of us just puts so much more pressure on us and it is a lot to take in," Jervah said.

Jervah is a UNC Charlotte student. Despite the robbery, he made his 8 a.m. class and plans on delivering pizza again as soon as he can.

“I'm definitely going to be on a lot more high alert. We're going to be way more careful," he said.

Police have not made any arrests. Jervah said he couldn't provide a good description of the robber because the man was covering his face.
