Charlotte postal carrier indicted for mail theft

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte postal carrier is accused of stealing gift cards and money from customers on his mail route.

Michael Diaz was indicted on two federal counts of mail theft late Thursday.

The first charge alleges that Diaz embezzled a Target gift card from a customer's envelope in January 2017, while the second charge alleges that he embezzled United States currency that was mailed to a customer in April 2017.

No dollar amount was mentioned in the indictment, and a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office said she could not offer any other details.
