Charlotte projected to be fastest growing US city by 2030

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte is projected to be the fastest growing large U.S. city between now and 2030, according to United Nations projections. Raleigh was also included.

Mecklenburg County is creating its first livability plan, a 22-point strategy plan to combat the challenges this growth could present.

The points range from broad to specific: managing overcrowding, recruiting new businesses, encouraging competition among the fiber optics industry.

County officials will present a rough draft to Charlotte's Sierra Club to receive feedback. Over the next two months, they'll invite public comment. They hope to have a final version in November.

The final version will include "to do" lists for the eight governmental jurisdictions in Mecklenburg County. Some of those will require funding. Some of the funding has already been allotted while other funds have not.

Channel 9 is working to gather more information about the livability plan. Watch Eyewitness News at 5 p.m. for the latest updates.

The Livable Community Plan is currently in draft form the county is asking for citizens input before making it final.
