CIAA signs 6-year contract to keep basketball tournament in Charlotte

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) signed a contract to extend its basketball tournament in Charlotte by six years.

The group also plans to move its headquarters to Charlotte.

By 2017 CIAA leaders plan to schedule early rounds of the tournament at the upgraded Goodsports and Bojangles Coliseum sports complex, with final rounds still held at Time Warner Cable Arena.

They also promise fans will be able to book hotel rooms at a cheaper rate.

In a newly signed agreement, TV64 has become the official media sponsor of the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte and the home of CIAA football, basketball and the weekly sports program “Inside the Game.”

TV64 will air CIAA live sports broadcasts consisting of two regular-season football games and one football championship game in the fall, five regular-season men’s basketball games, four men’s quarterfinal tournament games and two men’s semifinal tournament games in the spring, for a total of 14 live sports broadcasts.

TV64 will also air the TV show "Inside the Game" programming consisting of 26 weekly, 30-minute sports highlight episodes featuring sports from CIAA, SWAC, MEAC, SIAC and independent historically black colleges.

"Inside the Game" will air Sundays from 12:30 to 1 p.m., beginning Sept. 14.
