City leaders discuss how to manage Charlotte's growth

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — City leaders met with community members Saturday morning to discuss how to best manage growth in Charlotte.

Officials who oversee Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, housing and traffic got a chance to listen to concerns from people who live in District 7, which is the southeast part of the city.

Councilmember Ed Driggs said he wants his constituents to engage leaders so they can better understand and have a voice in city planning.

“Growth is a big issue for all of Charlotte, but particularly down here in District 7. We’ve seen traffic congestion and crowding in our schools, zoning seems to be haphazard,” Driggs said.

New city manager Marcus Jones also attended the town hall meeting. He said it’s important for staff to be out in the community, not just in city hall, and listening to residents.
