CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Months after not making the top 20 for Amazon’s new headquarters, the city of Charlotte will release information about its failed bid to lure the company.
Channel 9 requested records related to the HQ2 bid and despite the city’s elimination in February, a spokesperson said releasing them would frustrate the process while Raleigh was still in the running.
On Tuesday, Amazon executives announced New York City and Arlington, Virginia as the locations of the second and third headquarters.
Following the announcement, a city spokesperson emailed Channel 9 and said Charlotte’s records will be released within 25 business days.
“The city of Charlotte values open government and is compiling and will release public records related to the bid for Amazon HQ2,” said Britt Clampitt, communications specialist for the city of Charlotte, said.
While Charlotte has long been out of the running, the records will provide crucial information about a bid that has been shrouded in secrecy.
It’s unclear how much in tax incentives the city of Charlotte was offering Amazon. Many of the locations for the proposed headquarters are also still unknown.
