1 dead after second shooting near where child was killed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman was shot and killed in a shooting early Sunday on Echodale Drive, close to where a 7-year-old boy was shot to death hours earlier in the front yard at a family party, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

In the second shooting, officers said a man and woman were the victims of a drive-by shooting on Echodale. The woman died at the hospital while the man’s injuries were not serious.

CMPD identified the woman Sunday evening as Laquanta Franchez Young, 30.

Police were still conducting an investigation on Fieldvale Place where the boy had been fatally wounded around 8 p.m. Saturday when multiple shots were fired on nearby Echodale Drive shortly after midnight.
