CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A robbery in Northwest Charlotte turned deadly Monday night.
Police said a gunman tried to rob a man outside his home but the homeowner was able to shoot and kill the attacker.
A man on the 1100 block of Jordans Pond Lane told police he was outside around 9 p.m. when Darlanski Sherrill walked up with a gun.
He said Sherrill forced him into the houseand pistol-whipped him, but eventually he grabbed a gun and started shooting at Sherrill.
Sherrill shot back as he ran out of the house and jumped into his car.
Police said Don Antonio Morrison was driving the car.
Officers spotted the car moving erratically a short time later on W.T. Harris Boulevard.
They said Sherrill jumped out and later died at the hospital.
The driver was charged with armed robbery.
Neighbors said they're concerned about crime.
There was another shooting on the same street, just yards away, less than two months ago.
A neighbor's surveillance camera captured a drug sting.
Police arrested Jimmie Harris and accused him of shooting an undercover officer.
