CMPD: No arrests made after pair shot in Harris Teeter parking lot

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are trying to figure out what led to two people being shot Friday afternoon in the parking lot of a southeast Charlotte grocery store.

Officers said the pair were shot around 3:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Harris Teeter at Margaret Wallace and Idlewild roads.

Investigators said the two victims were found more than six miles away from the original crime scene, on East Independence Boulevard, near Eastway Drive.

They were both taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom captured the scene from above as part of the parking lot was closed off to shoppers with cones marking the shell casings.

While police closed off part of the parking lot to investigate, shoppers were still coming and going, and many were shocked to learn what happened.

"It's scary because one day, we live close enough to this Harris Teeter that my kids can walk up here by themselves so you have to rethink that as a parent," said one woman.

Just yards from the shooting is a bustling neighborhood where Channel 9 saw families walking and playing all afternoon.

Cameron Grier told Channel 9 that his sister just moved in across the street. Now, he said she'll be more vigilant when she steps outside.

"I have two nephews who live here too so I wouldn't want anything to happen to them, or my sister,” Grier said. “She probably won't be going there for a while."

Police initially said four people were shot at the parking lot before clarifying that only two people were hit by gunfire.

Police have released little information about what led to the gunfire, but said the shootings were not random and that the victims know the shooter.

No arrests have been made.
