CMPD arrests 3 in connection with Craigslist robberies

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested three men in connection to multiple Craigslist robberies around Charlotte in the last month.

Detectives with CMPD's Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged Chris Daquan Bennett, 16, Deonte Stitt, 19, and Tadarian Lindsey, 21, in connection to the robberies.

Police said that on Sunday, August 17 around 7 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Klondike Lane in reference to a robbery. When they arrived, the victim told them that he had responded to a Craigslist ad to purchase a cell phone and agreed to meet the suspect at the Klondike Lane location. Once he arrived he was approached by several men who than began physically assaulting him and robbed him.

On Tuesday, August 19, around 6:45 p.m., CMPD officers responded Dedmon Drive in reference to another robbery. The victim in that case told police that he had responded to a Craigslist ad to purchase a cell phone and agreed to meet the suspect at that location. When he arrived he said he was physically assaulted and robbed by several men.

Then on Thursday, August 28, at approximately 1:38 p.m., officers were called to the 500 block of Klondike Lane for another robbery. The victim in that case also told officers that he had responded to a Craigslist ad to purchase a phone. He arranged to meet at that location and when the suspect handed him a cell phone box, he immediately began physically assaulting the victim.

The victim said he tried to escape in his vehicle but the suspect continued to assault him and that a second suspect also approached and assaulted him.

Detectives collected information and evidence that led them to the arrests of Bennett, Stitt and Lindsey.

Bennett has been charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Common Law Robbery, two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Common Law Robbery and Larceny from Auto.

Lindsey was charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Common Law Robbery and Conspire to Commit Common Law Robbery.

Stitt was charged with two counts of Common Law Robbery and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Common Law Robbery.

Police said this is an ongoing, active investigation and that additional charges are pending.
