CMPD charge 2 in connection to north Charlotte murder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have arrested two men in connection to a murder in north Charlotte that happened Monday afternoon.

Officers with CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested 22-year-old Jamarick Horton Wednesday night and 21-year-old Tyree Sifford early Thursday morning in connection to the killing of 20-year-old Alquez Lee Thompson.

Police said Thompson was shot and killed in the 1500 block of Whisnant Street just after 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Sifford has been charged with first degree murder and Horton has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Investigators said Thompson, Horton and Sifford all knew each other.
