UPDATE: Man charged after discharging firearm on Eastway Drive

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department charged Ahmed Anwar Ismail, 33, with discharging a firearm within city limits Friday afternoon on Eastway Drive, according to a news release from the CMPD.

A heavy police presence, including SWAT, responded to a call after someone fired an assault rifle outside the Super Lube in east Charlotte.

The road was blocked for hours and forced a nearby Merry Oaks Elementary School to go under lockdown.

Police immediately apprehended the suspect who was an employee at the Super Lube.

No one was injured.

Ismail was also charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
