Man shot and killed in south Charlotte motel; police search for shooter

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside a southwest Charlotte hotel room late Monday night.

The victim was 40-year-old Louis Fuqua.

CMPD said they found the man in a third floor room of the Econo Lodge on Clanton Road just before midnight.  They said he was shot to death but have not released any other details in the case.

A man who was in a room two doors down told Channel 9’s Mark Becker he heard what sound like fight coming from the room earlier in the night.

“It just sounded like some bumping, like doop doop doop. Wasn’t no distinguished gunshots or anything,” the man said. “When I came out and seen all the police and everything, it shocked me, that close,” he said.

Detectives worked through the night and were still at the motel late Tuesday afternoon.
