CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A pedestrian crossed against traffic signals and just outside of the crosswalk when he was struck and killed by a Dodge Journey on Sardis Road North near Independence Boulevard in southeast Charlotte Tuesday night, according to police.
It is suspected that the pedestrian had been drinking alcohol, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a news release.
His name has not been released.
The driver of the Dodge stopped and stayed at the scene and officers told Channel 9 the driver did not appear to be impaired.
The investigation is ongoing and no charges were filed as of Tuesday night.
