CMPD looking for 3 after uptown carjacking

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for three people who stole a woman's car at gunpoint in uptown and wrecked it in Hidden Valley early Tuesday morning.

The crime happened around 1:45 a.m. at the 7th Street Station. The woman was not hurt.

After she told police what happened, an officer spotted the stolen car on Interstate 85 and chased it onto Cinderella Road in north Charlotte.

Police said that's where the thieves spun out, then jumped out of the car and ran off.

Police used K-9s to search for them, but couldn't find them.

Detectives are hoping fingerprints left on the car will lead them to the carjackers.
