CMPD looking for driver of car that crashed into utility pole

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were investigating a crash that knocked down a utility pole early Thursday morning in west Charlotte.

Police said the driver crashed into the power pole at Morehead Street and Suttle Avenue just after 4 a.m., bringing down some power line.

Police said the driver ran from the scene and officers are looking into if the car was stolen.

Officials said another car ran through the downed power lines and one of the cars caught fire.

Nobody was hurt.

Police said commuters should avoid the area as the road would be closed for an undetermined amount of time.
