CMPD: Man already in jail charged with murder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have charged a man with murder and they didn't have far to go to catch him.

CMPD said Michael Washington was serving time in the Mecklenburg County jail when he was identified as the suspect in the murder of Oren Reed.

Reed was found dead inside a home on Rocky Ridge Drive in November during a welfare check. Detectives said he was shot.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
