CMPD: Man charged after shooting, killing man in uptown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department arrested and a charged a man in connection with the Sunday morning homicide in uptown.

CMPD arrested and charged Labaron Jerrail McCain, 29, as the suspect in the murder of Clavis Jamon Reliford.

CMPD said information and evidence gathered during the  investigation led detectives in identifying McCain.

McCain was located and voluntarily transported to police headquarters.

He was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a firearm by felon.

McCain is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were investigating a homicide Sunday morning in uptown.

Two men got into an argument at about 2:30 a.m. in the middle of Third and South Caldwell streets, according to investigators.

One man pulled out a gun and shot Clevis Jamon Reliford, 29, four times, police said.

Reliford was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Officers said the shooting was not a random act of violence.

They are still investigating and have not arrested anyone yet.
