Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is keeping a closer eye on a busy section of South End after a shooting near popular bars shook up local businesses.
Last month, police said a man was shot in the parking lot near popular Gin Mill Bar and Tavern on the Tracks.
Just days before, another shooting happened down the street at the Midnight Dinner.
There have been no arrests in either case.
Police said they put a sky tower in the busy part of South End after a request from local businesses.
Some local bars took action to help deter crime talking with police to get the tower put in the parking lot next to Hot Taco.
They also hired more off-duty police officers to help with security during closing time.
Police said the tower will stay up at least for the next few days or if there’s a need elsewhere in the city.
“It's a comfort to know there is extra security, but I'm not sure if it's necessary,” resident Brianna Randle said.
