CMPD searching for two men accused in carjacking

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three men robbed two people at gunpoint early Saturday morning in the parking lot of a southeast Charlotte apartment complex, police said.

The men stole both of the victims' cars just before 2 a.m. in the 5800 block of Reddman Road, officials said.

Officers spotted the stolen cars near West 5th Street, but when they tried to stop them, the men continued driving.

The officers chased the stolen cars until one stopped on the I-77 ramp from Lasalle Street and two men took off on foot. Officers were not able to arrest the men.

The second car continued driving until the man came to a dead end on Newland Road.

The driver fled on foot, tossing away two handguns he had been carrying.

Officers soon caught the man and recovered the guns. His name has not been released.
