CMPD: Man robbed woman at ATM, shot her in the face

CHARLOTTE — Charlotte Mecklenburg police are desperate to find two men who attacked a woman at an East Charlotte ATM, robbed her and then shot her in the face.

The attack happened at a Cashpoint ATM on North Sharon Amity Road in a Family Dollar shopping center around 1:30 Wednesday morning.

Police are calling the crime a random act of violence in an area many people told Eyewitness News they wouldn't be caught in after dark.

"I just hope everybody wakes up its no sense for this type of violence," says Ray Griers, ATM customer.

Police said the woman was parked at the ATM when two men approached her, demanded her purse at gunpoint, grabbed it and her cellphone, and then fired shots at her while she was in her car.

Police said one bullet hit her in the face that has now caused her to be blind in one eye. She is expected to recover.

"You have to have a really cold heart not only to take the money but to shoot her car and shoot her in the face," said ATM customer Daniel Dilva.

This all happened less than a half a mile from CMPD's Hickory Grove division.

Investigators released surveillance photos taken from the ATM hoping they will lead to someone helping police find the two that are now putting a community on edge.

"It does make me a little concerned for the safety of my family," said Dilva.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
