CMS Board approves revised school calendar

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education approved a revised 2013-14 school calendar at its regular meeting this week.

Calendar Option B, which includes a teacher workday before the Thanksgiving holiday and a longer winter break, was adopted at the meeting.

In April 2012, the Board of Education adopted a 185-instructional day calendar for the 2013-14 school year that followed the law in effect at that time.

In July, the North Carolina General Assembly amended the statute that governs school calendars.

The new law, which goes into effect in the 2013-14 school years, gives districts more flexibility with start and end dates and also mandates 185 days or 1,025 hours of instruction.

The approved 2013-14 calendar meets the requirements of North Carolina law, North Carolina Board of Education and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education policies.
