Community holds fundraiser for Charlotte girl recovering from severe burns

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A young Charlotte girl is recovering from an explosion that nearly killed her.

Her family is receiving help from the community.

A fundraising bike ride started in Indian Trail and McAdenville on Sunday and ended at Mac's Speed Shop in Steele Creek.

Live music, barbecue and great weather helped bring a lot of people to raise money for the family of Emily Hinton, a two-year old who was severely burned in 2015 when a gas can exploded in the backyard.

She's still healing at home after seven months in a Winston-Salem burn center.

“It's been difficult. It's been really hard, but when you see this many people supporting Emily and just coming out and helping her, it just, it makes things a little bit easier," said Amy Hinton, Emily's mother.
