Police: Man charged in Concord hit-and-run that left bicyclist seriously hurt

CONCORD, N.C. — A 25-year-old man was charged in a hit-and-run that left a bicyclist seriously hurt on Jan. 22 in Concord, police said.

Officers said a bicyclist was trying to cross Warren C. Coleman Boulevard at the intersection near Cabarrus Avenue West just after 4:30 p.m. when he was struck.

The car was turning onto Coleman Boulevard when the crash happened. Police said the driver, Desmond Mason, left the scene traveling south in a blue car.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Charlotte with serious injuries. On Friday, officials said the victim is now in stable condition.

Officers found the suspect’s car in a Charlotte neighborhood Wednesday.

Mason surrendered to officers and was charged with felony hit and run causing serious injury, and driving while license revoked. He is being held at the Cabarrus County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
