WASHINGTON — South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will be on Capitol Hill Wednesday morning for her confirmation hearing for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
She could face questions about President-elect Donald Trump's recent remarks that the U.N. serves little purpose any more, and the U.S. spends too much money to be a part of it.
Haley will be in front of the Senate foreign relations committee at 10 a.m.
She is expected to bring up U.S. spending on the U.N., according to a copy of her opening statement.
Haley's expected to knock the U.N. for its treatment of Israel and say the U.S. should reconsider its contribution of 22 percent of the annual budget.
She could also face tough questions about Russia's global role and human rights.
Current Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster would take over as governor if Haley is appointed.
