PAGELAND, S.C. — A baby boy was found dead in a swimming pool Tuesday night, officials said.

Deputies confirmed a 16-month-old boy drowned in an above-ground pool at a home on Coon Creek Road in Pageland.
The Chesterfield County Coroner told Channel 9’s Greg Suskin that he, along with the sheriff’s office, were investigating the incident.
According to the sheriff’s office, several children were playing outside when the boy managed to get into the pool.
Officials told Channel 9 that the Department of Social Services took the other children at the home into protective custody.

The boy was pronounced dead at a hospital in Monroe and no charges have been filed.
The Child Fatality Unit from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Department also joined the investigation.
No other specifics have been released at this time.
