• County leaders to discuss spending $50K on external investigation into revaluations

    Updated:

CORNELIUS, N.C. - Mecklenburg County homeowners have been outraged for the last several months over property revaluations.

Commissioners will discuss whether to spend thousands on an external investigation Tuesday night.

The investigation would be conducted by an outside auditor.

The possible investigation was put on the agenda by Mecklenburg County Commissioner Karen Bently and three co-sponsors.

If it is accepted, the county manager would come up with a list of auditors they could hire, then decide how much to pay them.

According to the proposal, the city could spend $50,000 on the investigation.

The same group of commissioners also wants to set another revaluation date for Jan. 1, 2014.

This is exactly what homeowners in Cornelius had been hoping for.

They have been outspoken on the issue and some are expected to come to Tuesday’s meeting, which starts at 6 p.m.
