CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte City Councilman Kenny Smith officially entered the race for mayor Wednesday.
"Charlotte deserves better, that’s why today I’m announcing my candidacy for mayor," Smith said.
Smith, a Republican, laid out his campaign blueprint that included job creation, uniting the community and supporting police and improving infrastructure.
"I think my message of optimism will resonate with our citizens and I put my faith in the voters," Smith said.
Kimberly Barnette and Gary Dunn are the other two Republicans running for mayor
On the Democratic side, Charlotte City Councilwoman Vi Lyles entered the race Tuesday.
Constance Partee will also file.
Incumbent Mayor Jennifer Roberts is set to file Thursday and state Sen. Joel Ford will do the same next week.
