CMPD: Couple led officers on chase through Meck, Gaston counties

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A couple led officers on a chase Tuesday afternoon from Mecklenburg County into Gaston County, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

A male driver, Robert Chisholm, 21, and a 15-year-old female were taken into custody. The female's identification was not released because she is a juvenile, police said.

Chisholm has been charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, felony flee to allude, no operators license, aggressive driving, driving on the sidewalk and speeding in a school zone. He has not yet been charged with armed robbery.

Officers said they spotted a silver Toyota Prius in north Charlotte that matched the description of a vehicle that was carjacked on Sunday from a pizza-delivery driver.

The officer tried to pull the driver over but the suspects would not stop, authorities said. Police said the driver, Chisholm, led officers on a 10-mile chase before winding up on Rankin Avenue at a McDonald's in Mount Holly.

Witnesses said officers swarmed the fast food restaurant's parking lot.

"I just heard a whole bunch of police and then I just came out and seen all that," witness Henry Davis said.

Police said they found a gun along the chase route, but they have not said if it was thrown out the window by the suspects.

No one was injured during the chase.

Officers responded to an armed robbery call at the Domino's Pizza in the 8500 block of Park Road about 11:38 p.m. on Sunday.

As a pizza-delivery person was walking back to his car, he found two black suspects sitting in his vehicle, police said.

The suspects got out of the car, a silver Toyota Prius, showed a gun and drove off with the car, officials said. The Prius has a North Carolina license plate tag DKN-7594.

On Tuesday, about 2:15 p.m., officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the car, but the driver refused to stop the vehicle and a pursuit followed.

Officers utilized stop sticks on the vehicle at Wilkinson Boulevard, but the vehicle continued to drive with a flat tire, police said.

A BB gun was recovered that had been thrown out of the vehicle.

Police said they are continuing to investigate.
