2 hurt in crash that blocked portion of I-77 in Huntersville

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Emergency crews had to close a portion of Interstate-77 in Huntersville Tuesday morning due to a serious crash near Exit 25.

Firefighters were called to the crash around 11 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-77 prior to Sam Furr Road.

The Huntersville Fire Department tweeted that at least two people were hurt in the wreck. Paramedics later confirmed that both patients suffered minor injuries and would be OK.

Department of Transportation officials said two southbound lanes were reopened just after noon, but delays could be seen into Cornelius.

Authorities have not said what caused the crash.
