Son charged after father was found shot inside burned Cleveland County home

SHELBY, N.C. — Emergency crews found a body inside a burned-out mobile home early Monday morning after a fire in Cleveland County.

The body found in the home on Christopher Road in Shelby was shot once, deputies said.

The fire marshal said that it took awhile for firefighters to find the body because the home was so heavily damaged.

The house is owned by Danny Goins, 59, who owns a body shop in Shelby and didn't show up for work Monday morning.

The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office charged two men Tuesday with the the killing of Danny Ray Goins.

The victim's son, Kyle Ray Goins, 37, and Tim Ray Martin, 33, both of 504 Bridges Dr., Kings Mountain were arrested and are in the Cleveland County Detention Center under no bond.

Search warrants obtained by Channel 9 showed that Kyle and his father had gotten into a fight a few days before the shooting and arson. A man who worked for Danny said Kyle allegedly stole $9,000 dollars from his father, and was confronted about it. The co-worker told investigators the two got into a  argument the day before the incident as well.

The search warrants also showed investigators spoke to Martin's girlfriend. According to court documents, she told deputies the suspects left their home at one point and came back early Monday morning. She said when the two got back they went into the backyard and burned the clothes and shoes they were wearing.

"Won't you come, get me next,” his brother Rodney Goins said. "That's what I got to say for you."

Family and neighbors said Danny recently let his son move in with him, but the father and son parted ways Sunday morning.

Circumstances surrounding the fire are still under investigation.

“It shows you how big of a coward they are,” Rodney Goins said.

Neighbors were in shocked to hear about Danny's death.

"Church going guy, he'd give you anything off his back, he'd give you anything you'd ask for, I mean it's just a shock to everybody," neighbor Gary Sanders said.
