Crews battle house fire north of downtown Morganton

MORGANTON, N.C. — Fire crews responded to a house fire north of downtown Morganton Friday afternoon.

The strong winds in the area caused the flames to start spreading quickly.

Channel 9 was there along Vinearden Road and could see flames shooting from the home as firefighters worked to control the fire.

Public safety officers received more than a half-dozen calls about the fast-moving fire.

Neighbors told Channel 9 a couple lives at the home but also said they didn’t see their vehicle in the driveway.

It’s not clear if anyone was hurt.

Firefighters continued to work to put out hot spots into Friday evening.

It's unclear what caused the fire.
