Crowd watches demolition on Camden Road, West Blvd.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A crowd watched an old building come down on Tuesday night to make room for new apartments.

A building that sat vacant for years is finally coming down.

In its place, developers are building more than 300 apartments and some retail space.

Dozens of people lined up along Camden Road and West Boulevard to watch crews tear down the building.

Most of the block had already been destroyed.

Construction work on the new living space should begin soon.
