Customers say they support sign posted on Charlotte restaurant's door

Since the Channel 9 story on the sign at a Kuboto restaurant in north Charlotte went viral, the owners told reporter Angela Hong that they’ve had several people express their support.
Some businesses owners have told them they may borrow their idea.
Kabuto restaurants in Charlotte are independently owned and operated, but the one off of W.T. Harris Boulevard has signs saying: "Take your hoodie down, pull your pants up, finish your phone conversations and marijuana smell not allowed."
The owners said it's about respecting other customers.
“We are getting calls from people we don't know saying you guys are doing the right thing,” owner Hiro Tanaka said.
People came into the restaurant Wednesday because of the sign. Since the story was posted on Eyewitness News’ Facebook page, more than 1,000 people have weighed in, most saying they like the idea.
“I think it keeps the establishment look classy,” customer Zach Walsh said.
Others have commented, saying they are put off by the sign.
“I think it should have been written out more respectfully,” a Facebook commenter said. “I think the sign is very unprofessional.”
Some commenters pointed out other Charlotte restaurants have similar signs, like Midnight Diner in South End. They ask their customers to pull their pants up, too.
“I think it’s just very inappropriate and disrespectful to other people in the restaurant,” Midnight Diner manager Dana Slawter said.
The North Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association said they don't have a stance on these signs, but it's not something they heard a lot of restaurants doing. They said since it's a private business, they have the right to post the signs.
