DeAngelo Williams to provide 53 mammograms to Charlotte women

Former Carolina Panthers and current Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams is partnering with the Charlotte Knights and Carolinas HealthCare officials to provide 53 mammography screenings and follow-up care for women in Charlotte.

The DeAngelo Williams Foundation and the Charlotte Knights have partnered with Carolinas HealthCare Foundation, and Charlotte Radiology will host 53 Strong for Sandra.

The event is in honor of Williams’ mother who lost her battle with cancer at the age of 53.

Williams also lost four aunts, all of them under the age of 50, to the disease.

The Charlotte Radiology Mobile Breast Center will be located in the parking lot on the corner of S. Mint Street and 3rd Street, adjacent to Romare Bearden Park and BB&T Ballpark in uptown Charlotte from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Patients must preregister for the screening and must be over the age of 40 and without insurance. Interested patients may seek further eligibility requirements and register by calling Levine Cancer Institute at (980) 442-2509. The goal of the event is to screen 53 women.

Williams will be at the event at 1 p.m. to present a $10,000 check in support of the fund.

Following the screening events, the Charlotte Knights will host its annual Pink Knights game that evening with a first pitch at 6:05 p.m. For more information visit www.charlotteknights.com.
