BOONE, N.C. — A death investigation is underway after a body was found in a river in Watauga County, deputies said.
The body was found Sunday in the New River behind the Hollar and Greene Produce Company off of Highway 421.

The Medical Examiner in WInston Salem has scheduled an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Watch channel 9 for updates.
Investigators said they are still working to notify the victim’s family before they release the person’s name.
They do not think foul play was involved, but the cause of death is still under investigation.
A medical examiner in Winston-Salem will perform an autopsy later this week.
