ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. - Shortly after midnight Wednesday, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was conducting a traffic checkpoint on White Farm Road when deputies noticed a vehicle make an abrupt turn onto Deer Brook Drive without using a turn signal.
The vehicle was eventually stopped by deputies at the Volonte Motel, 3730 U.S. Highway 601, in Salisbury.
The driver was identified as Wayne Lee Morrison II, 37. Morrison provided consent to search his vehicle and deputies said they discovered two containers with 94 hydrocodone tablets hidden in a space below the center console. The weight of the tablets was 41 grams.
Morrison was charged with two counts of trafficking more than 28 grams of heroin/opium, one count of possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance, and one count of interfering with a utility meter (Piedmont Natural Gas). The utility charge dealt with a warrant issued on Aug. 14, 2013.
Bond was set at $150,500, and Morrison was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center.
