Castillo has been charged with first-degree murder.

"Self defense," Castillo said as he got out of a deputy's patrol SUV on Monday.

Deputies said Castillo got a black eye during the confrontation with Campbell but said Campbell wasn’t armed.

Those who live nearby said the shooting victim didn't deserve what happened to him.

"You would see him around town. He just seemed like a really nice and personable guy. There's nothing I've seen or heard him do out of the way to anyone," neighbor Roy Keen said.
