Developers eying to build hotel at Metro in midtown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Levine Properties is asking the city to rezone land in midtown to build a 300-foot hotel and apartment building on 1.3 acres.
 
The vacant triangle of land sits next to Trader Joe's and the Metropolitan development.
 
They bought the land in 2012 and had long planned for apartments but they had an issue with the creeks flood plain.
 
The county flood maps changed Feb. 19 allowing them to move forward developers can't say how many hotel rooms it will house.
 
They need the zoning change before a hotel partner will commit and developers said a rezoning hearing is set for April with a possible decision in May.
