DISTURBING VIDEO: Catawba Co. high school student viciously attacked

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Another disturbing video has surfaced from Catawba County involving high school students attacking classmates.

A mother sent Channel 9 the video of a girl at St. Stephens High School in Hickory repeatedly punching her daughter. At one point, her daughter is on the floor while the other girl is on top of her, hitting her.

"As a parent, you are confused, angry, all the flush emotions," said father David Lasley. His daughter was the one attacked in the video.

Lasley said he refuses to watch the video. He said it's too painful.

"It bothers me. It seems like it was staged," Lasley said.

The video shows one girl in the locker room start recording on her phone before the incident and rush into position to record. No one stepped in to stop it or willingly shared the video with school officials.

Deputies have taken out juvenile petitions on the 15-year-old attacker. But Lasley and his wife went to St. Stephens High School and told administrators that the students who recorded the video should be punished too.

"There should be extreme consequences in line with you committing the act too," Lasley said.

Under current school policy, no actions will be taken against the students who recorded the incident.

Administrators told the family that the students who were there said the attack was unprovoked, according to student’s family.

It comes a couple of weeks after a video surfaced of a student at Bunker Hill High School repeatedly being punched in the face and head.
