DMV to issue licenses to immigrants who qualify

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — North Carolina Democrats are pushing back against the state's plan to issue licenses to immigrants who qualify for a federal work program.

Supporters said the bold pink stripe and the words "no lawful status" are simple ways to identify people, but critics told the General Assembly they will open them up to discrimination, and they are pushing a bill to ban the pink stripe.

The Department of Motor Vehicles plans to start issuing those licenses at the end of the month.
